R & D

The Konecranes R&D-function works as a resource developing the technology and product platforms of each business line. Our R&D is also involved in Service-driven programs for the development of maintenance service concepts. Konecranes is pioneering the development of new crane technology by observing and analyzing the demands in the material handling market. In particular, we focus on areas such as advanced automation, predictive service, remote monitoring, product design, operator ergonomics and safety, as well as environmentally sound solutions.

By applying concurrent engineering principles in our R&D, we have always been able to launch new products to the benefit of cost-efficient and safe operations for our customers. The fact that Konecranes is a fully integrated company - as manufacturer, distributor and service provider for material handling products - gives us a clear advantage in respect to our competitors. Every development project team consists of experts from engineering, production, sales, purchasing and service. Using our experience with cranes of all makes under service agreements worldwide, Konecranes fuels its Research and Development function for further innovations improving the features in our product range.

Our technological focus is in cranes, hoists, drives, motor controls, automation and software. Our most recent achievements include development of the world's most modern compact Electric Wire Rope Hoist, a full range of Electric Chain Hoists, a complete series of motor controls from 0.3 to 1500 kW power rating. For the harbor industry we have developed a unique Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) Crane, a Grab Unloader and onboard shipboard gantry cranes known as the Konecranes Munckloader. Another R&D achievement from Konecranes is the Container Handling Crane (Ship-to-Shore) design, The BoxHunter®. In maintenance service the latest developments have been ChainQ, the chain force measuring device and RopeQ, the wire rope analyzing device for improved preventive maintenance.

Konecranes R&D is enhanced through a close collaboration with universities and research institutes. This adds to our spirit of innovation and enables us to lead the way in the development of crane technology in the future. If you are specialized in electronics, software engineering, machine design or in structural engineering and searching for new demanding engineering challenges, contact our recruitment service to learn how to join the leading company in the crane industry.
