Malta Freeport orders fifteen Konecranes RTGs

Trade press releases

Malta Freeport Terminals, one of the busiest ports in Europe, has ordered fifteen Konecranes Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes as part of its steady expansion. The first cranes will be delivered at the end of 2018 and the rest during spring of 2019. The order was booked at the end of 2017.

Established in 1988, Malta Freeport is located in Birzebbugga on the southeastern coast of Malta. It has grown remarkably in recent years, and is now the Mediterranean’s third largest trans-shipment port. It currently operates a fleet of 50 Konecranes RTGs. The 15 Konecranes RTGs currently on order will be equipped with the Auto-steering, Stack Collision Reporting and Auto-TOS Reporting features. They will stack 1-over-6 containers high and 6 rows plus truck lane wide.

Antti Halonen, Sales Manager EMEA, Konecranes Port Solutions, said: “Malta Freeport has been an important customer for Konecranes since 2005. We are happy to be a part of the story of its growth and success. The new RTGs will help Malta Freeport to provide its shipping line customers with greater container handling capacity and reliability.”
