Konecranes VLC Corporation has received an order for a Ship-to-Shore container crane to be delivered to the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) Gdynia in Poland. The value of the order is over EUR 4.5 million. Delivery is due in June 2005.
Baltycki Terminal Kontenerowy Sp. Z.o.o. in Gdynia is the leading container terminal in Poland and one of the largest in the Baltic region. KCI Konecranes has previously delivered a similar ship-to-shore (STS) container crane to the terminal in 1999.
“KCI Konecranes holds a market leading position in Ship-to-Shore container cranes in the Baltic Sea area”, says Mika Mahlberg, Director, Container Cranes. “We have delivered practically every STS container crane for this region since early 1970s.”
The new crane is part of BCT's investment program to double the current terminal capacity of 400,000 TEU to 800,000 TEU per annum. BCT is owned by International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), a Philippine based international container terminal operating company.
The container crane is of Panamax size with a lifting capacity of 45 tons and an outreach of 38.5 m. The new crane has a higher lifting capacity compared to the one delivered in 1999 and features KCI Konecranes’ latest technology in container cranes. KCI Konecranes is a unique supplier of container cranes by producing modern AC drives in-house. Customers benefit from being able to receive fast and knowledgeable service from the one source.
Over the last five years, Konecranes VLC has sold eleven similar STS cranes of Panamax size among others to the ports of Oulu (Finland), Gdynia (Poland), St Petersburg (Russia) and Kotka (Finland).
