KCI Konecranes reports new order surge for rubber tired gantry cranes (RTG). KCI Konecranes today announces the receipt of new orders for 34 RTGs, taking the total order intake for RTGs since January 2005 to 53 units. This represents over 20% of the global RTG market. Delivery of the newly ordered units is due to be completed during the first half of 2006.
APM Terminals (APMT) has ordered 10 RTGs for their US West Coast terminals- eight units destined for Los Angeles and two for Tacoma. This order takes APMT’s total orders from KCI Konecranes to 51 RTGs and 30 RMGs (rail mounted gantry cranes) for their East, Gulf and West Coast terminals in the US.
Port of Houston Authority (PHA), USA, has ordered 12 RTGs to their new Bayport Terminal, which brings their total fleet of Konecranes RTGs to 34 units.
Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), USA, has ordered 10 RTGs to their Garden City Terminal in Savannah, increasing their fleet of Konecranes RTGs to 31 units.
Multi-Link Terminals, the Irish joint venture company between Containerships from Finland and Forth Ports Plc, is increasing its fleet of Konecranes RTGs to four with an order of two more for their terminal in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Commenting on the recent orders, Ilpo Hakala, Director, Harbour and Shipyard Cranes, says: “This record month of July for RTG orders is proof of our customers' satisfaction of the cranes we have supplied each of them on several previous contracts. With the highest productivity and the lowest maintenance costs, lowest fuel consumption, lowest pollutant emissions and downtime in the industry, the Konecranes RTG has established itself globally as the state-of-the-art crane of this type. To maintain the high standards our customers have come to expect, our Port Services Group has expanded accordingly as the numbers of RTG cranes continues to grow. Additional technicians and expanded spare parts depots are a direct result of these increasing volumes."
All of these 34 units are 16-wheel all-electric high performance specification Konecranes RTG Cranes. Handling efficiency is achieved by high hoist, trolley traverse and gantry speeds. The RTGs will be fully equipped with modern features including Sway Prevention and Fine Positioning Systems. All features are electromechanical, with no hydraulics involved.
