Unlocking full growth potential

Unlocking full growth potential

Panu Routila, Konecranes' President and CEO, shares his views on where the company is today, over a year since the acquisition of Terex MHPS in January 2017.

Where has Konecranes currently set its sights?

We’re committed to lifting Konecranes to the next level: we call it Konecranes 4.0.

Konecranes 3.0 was the MHPS acquisition, the integration of which is nearing completion. At the same time, we have started to focus on our growth opportunities and on improving our profitability. Only these two together will take us to the bright future that lies ahead.

By 2020, Konecranes will be the leading industrial and port technology company across all its operations. But we will not stop there – we will continue to seek new avenues for growth.

Our target is to unlock the full value creation opportunity available to us. An important part of that involves taking advantage of the new means that are now open to us to bring the best possible value to our customers.

How will the renewed organization help Konecranes to grow?

Today, our company has the ways, tools and means for growth to commence, with the entire organization looking to capture the synergies of the MHPS acquisition. The new alignment brings together a highly complementary set of products, and creates a truly global footprint, so we can serve our customers with the same high standards worldwide.

The move has also strengthened our service offering on a much wider scale. Together, we can reach scale benefits and efficiencies inaccessible to either company before. It also allows for our IT infrastructure to be leveraged, bringing our processes to the next level worldwide.

The new Konecranes can provide even better industry-leading resources for continued technology development, for example in automation, software and digitalization. Altogether, it’s a far stronger picture, and one that will surely resonate with our customer base.

In what ways will your customers gain?

Our service customers will be able to benefit from an even broader offering of maintenance services globally. Our industrial lifting equipment and solutions customers will see the advantages of an even stronger technological base than before, and an offering that puts their needs in focus.

With Konecranes now offering the widest and deepest container handling equipment offering on the market, our customers in ports and terminals will gain from a wider choice of equipment than ever before that addresses their specific needs, with opportunities in automation and software, all from one supplier.

What has the integration meant for Konecranes personnel?

Each of our Business Areas plans and acts to strive for a culture of profitability, growth and people excellence. They also tailor the customer experience based on their business model and business-critical touch points.

We are motivating our people for excellence. Together, we all strive for a culture of profitability and growth – to this end, Konecranes’ leadership in its entirety has the job of enabling an engaged and committed workforce.

How have those within your business environment responded to these dramatic changes?

Two powerful brands have combined, becoming vastly more than the sum of their parts. In our interactions with customers, partners and stakeholders, we have heard only positive comments about joining forces in this way.

We have been able to establish a strong direction built on our shared heritage, particularly on the technology side. While there remains much to be done, we have made an excellent start to the journey.
