Konecranes to help modernize one of Belgium’s largest energy producers

Corporate press releases

Konecranes is partnering with a Belgium-based electricity and gas distributor to refurbish two cranes, taking them from their 1960s original design to the 21st century.

The global lifting leader won the order to modernize two lattice portal cranes at  Luminus Monsin Hydro Power Station in Liège, Belgium. The energy producer supplies nearly 10 percent of the country’s production capacity.

The complete modernization project includes refurbishing two cranes and modernizing them with new CXT hoists and electrics, as well as Demag motor-gear drives for gantry travel.

Additionally, it includes a structural survey with NDT (non-destructive testing), repair work, and grit-blasting and painting to help protect the structures from outdoor elements. The project is scheduled to be completed this August.

“We’re revamping both gantry cranes to improve their operational safety and reliability for the next 35 years,” said Daniel Harvey, Director Sales & Operations, IS EMEA Europe West. “Konecranes is already partnering with the EDF group and key customers in France and the UK, so we’re happy to extend that relationship and offer our equipment’s technical advantages to Belgium.”

The contract win underscores Konecranes leading position in overhead crane service, and in particular its commitment to helping customers achieve the highest lifecycle value of their equipment. The agreement also supports Konecranes belief in the growing opportunities of the circular economy, and the company’s commitment to deliver savings to customers via repairing, modernizing, reusing, and recycling products.
