Guess what? Konecranes is global material handling solutions leader with a history spanning over 100 years and operations in over 50 countries globally. We have some 16,500 employees, three strong business areas – Industrial Service, Industrial Equipment and Port Solutions – and annual sales of over EUR 4 billion.
Now you may be thinking that’s all fine and good, but to quote Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, your immediate reaction could also be “I don’t care”. We get it, and that’s totally OK. We at Konecranes know how important our company is to keeping societies running smoothly, but we also know we’re a teeny-tiny drop in the ocean when it comes to population size.
Then there’s the reality that content is hardly in short supply these days (thanks, ChatGPT!), attention spans ain’t what they used to be, and the fact that most people don’t have a crane in their garage or a hoist in their kitchen.
But we love a good challenge, especially when it comes to telling you why you should care. The short answer is Konecranes Moves What Matters, but effective communications is all about “show, don’t tell”, so why don’t we do just that?
From ports to your pantry
Well, to start off, according to the UN maritime transport moves over 80% of goods traded worldwide: “It connects global value chains, carrying raw materials and semi-processed goods to production hubs and delivering finished products to consumers. These flows are vital for industrialization, economic growth and job creation.”
Boom! This means that the car in your driveway, the building material for your house/ apartment or the fruit on your counter could have been delivered using Konecranes equipment. In addition to ports and container handling, we’re an indispensable player in multiple industries including aviation, auto, pulp and paper, mining and logistics.
So that’s the “what” we are. We’re in more places than you thought, right?
Then there’s the “how” we do things, and here – not to flex too much – we could cite a couple of nifty metrics.
Platinum standards
One is the EcoVadis business sustainability platform, which measures companies in four areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. In 2025 EcoVadis awarded Konecranes the highest Platinum rating, putting it in the top 1% of over 100,000 rated companies globally. We’re doing good things the right way.
Then there’s our ability to attract and retain top talent. We have an engaged global employee base with an average tenure of over 10 years, meaning our purpose, inclusive culture, and opportunities for growth resonate with our employees, and they can grow with us. Our President and CEO Marko Tulokas has spent over 20 years at Konecranes, and a 2025 survey of young talent in Finland ranked Konecranes 6th out of 50 companies. That’s a fantastic mix of experience and young blood.
Hopefully this sheds some more light on both the “what” and “how” of we Move What Matters. But to return to the idea of “show, don’t tell” we close with something for people with shorter – and longer! – attention spans.
Here you can see our new brand video, which captures the essence of moving what matters in a neat and tidy 90 seconds. If you want to dig deeper, our Corporate Strategy & Business Development Head Christine George was interviewed at Nordic Business Forum 2025, and her 15-minute interview can be seen here.
Enjoy!
