KCI Konecranes Wins Contract in Usa for Shipboard Gantry Cranes

Konecranes VLC Corporation has received an order for three Shipboard Gantry Cranes from INTERNATIONAL MARINE CARRIERS, INC., who is acting as manager for the U.S. MARITIME ADMINISTRATION. The total order value is well over USD 12 million.  
 
The U.S. Maritime Administration will convert three existing Cape "F" Class LASH Vessels for container handling usage. The vessels will be equipped with one Shipboard Container Crane and will be independent of all port based cranes. The cranes are so called Konecranes-Munckloader cranes for container handling.  
 
The Konecranes-Munckloader is originally a Norwegian design, which Konecranes has molded into its own concept. The last fourteen Konecranes-Munckloader cranes were sold just one month ago ultimately also to an American Shipowner. This order further strengthens Konecranes position in the North American shipbuilding industry and confirms the success of the Konecranes' design.  
 
The cranes will have a lifting capacity of 30 long tons each. The cranes include KCI Konecranes' own modern variable frequency controls with built-in programmable logic. All three cranes will be delivered in the last quarter of 2001.
