At Konecranes, compliant and ethical business practices are essential to our operations and corporate culture. We have many programs and processes, such as the global compliance framework, in place that aim to promote an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with laws as well as exercising due diligence to prevent and detect illegal and unethical conduct. 

Our Code of Conduct sets ground rules for our work applicable to all employees globally. The Code is complemented by several group-wide policies.

We expect high ethical standards of ourselves and our business partners

We expect our business partners to conduct their business in compliance with high legal and ethical principles which are aligned with ours.

We apply a risk-based "Know Your Counterparty" processes to conduct due diligence and background screenings, identify red flags, and assess third-party risks. The level of scrutiny, approval processes, and monitoring activities are tailored based on the specific risks associated with the business, country risks, and business partners involved.

The Supplier Code of Conduct specifies the minimum standards for compliance that suppliers and subcontractors must meet regarding topics such as human rights, health and safety, environmental management, anti-corruption, and international trade. Please read more from Supplier pages.

The Distributor Code of Conduct is setting the standard for responsible business conduct expected from our distributors. The Distributor Code of Conduct applies to all business partners engaged as official distributors of Konecranes Group.

Our compliance framework provides a structured approach to ensure that our programs and processes are developed continuously and systematically and that key elements are defined and effectively implemented.

We seek to holistically address all compliance risks relevant for Konecranes, but we have identified four key compliance risk areas for Konecranes which are particularly in the focus: anti-corruption, trade compliance, data protection, and competition law.

Our key compliance focus areas

Prevention of corruption

Our Anti-Corruption Policy and Code of Conduct demonstrate our commitment to working against corruption in all forms, including extortion and bribery, and define Konecranes’ expectation and rules for preventing corruption.

Our Anti-Corruption Policy has compliance protocols and rules in place to detect and address corruption risks, embedding our zero tolerance of corrupt practices into our monitoring and follow-up processes. It includes, for example, detailed instructions on gifts and hospitality, including monetary limits for reporting and pre-approvals, and a review and approval process for sales intermediaries. Employees are regularly trained on anti-corruption topics, and our anti-corruption eLearning is mandatory for all staff employees globally.

Compliance with international trade laws

At Konecranes, we are committed to conducting international business responsibly and in compliance with trade laws and regulations such as trade sanctions, customs, and import and export control regulations. Our trade compliance program outlines the company’s policies and processes on these regulations, designed to prevent engaging in transactions that could violate these laws.

To ensure effective implementation across our operations, each legal entity involved in trade has dedicated resources for trade sanctions, export and import control, and customs. These roles support local accountability and ensure compliance with applicable laws. All staff employees are regularly required to complete a trade sanctions and export controls eLearning.

Compliance with trade regulations is not only a legal obligation but also a strategic enabler for Konecranes. It protects our people, supports responsible global trade, and ensures we can operate confidently even in complex or high-risk environments.

Protection of personal data

We take a proactive and structured approach to data protection, with clear governance and defined responsibilities across our organisation. Our programme addresses relevant risks and ensures compliance with data protection regulations.

An internal network of trained Data Protection Experts supports our operations globally, while our awareness programme builds awareness and competence across teams. We continuously improve our processes, including assessments and localisation efforts, to maintain high standards of data protection and accountability.

Fair competition

When it comes to competition law risks, we have a systematic approach and processes in place to identify and address competition risks relevant for our different businesses and go-to-market models.

Our Competition Policy and other more detailed instructions give comprehensive guidance to ensure that employees refrain from engaging in or agreeing to any activities that may restrict competition, highlighting the fundamental principle that agreements and practices aimed at restricting competition are strictly prohibited. Our competition eLearning is mandatory for all staff employees globally.
