Maarit Toivonen, Electrician

"When you are testing equipment, unexpected faults can come up. The real feeling of success comes from finding the fault and then sorting it out alone or with a friend. That makes you feel good."

I started at Konecranes in 2003, and before that, I studied at a vocational school to become an automation technician. After my studies, I attended the Konecranes Crane Institute, and then started working at the Konecranes electrical factory in Hyvinkää, Finland.

My work consists mainly of testing the frequency converters. Once I start testing those, I keep testing them until they are fully operational. When you are testing equipment, unexpected faults can come up, and then you may have to spend a long time looking for the fault, but the real feeling of success comes from finding the fault and then sorting it out alone or with a friend. That makes you feel good.

I must have certain qualifications for my work: occupational safety, electrical safety and emergency first aid. Konecranes ensures that these qualifications are kept up-to-date.

I think Konecranes is a great place to work because of my colleagues and because help is there when you need it. Advice is always available, and you can ask help from your colleagues. It's also the lovely atmosphere at my workplace which makes this great!
