Keeping sling inspection records keeps you prepared

We know that routine inspections are essential to the overall performance and efficiency of slings and other lifting equipment. To reduce the likelihood of problems caused by ordinary wear and tear, it is important to routinely inspect these items. To stay compliant with OSHA standards, it is also important to make detailed inspection records. Be prepared to present your inspection records to an OSHA representative in the event of an audit. 

 

OSHA 1910.184(e)(3)(ii), (g)(8)(ii) Sling Inspections
The following excerpt is taken directly from OSHA 1910.184*

Alloy steel chain sling inspection records

  • The employer shall make and maintain a record of the most recent month in which each alloy steel chain sling was thoroughly inspected, and shall make such record available for examination.

Metal mesh sling repair records

  • Once repaired, each sling shall be permanently marked or tagged, or a written record maintained, to indicate the date and nature of the repairs and the person or organization that performed the repairs. Records of repairs shall be made available for examination.
