Workstation lifting for automotive service at UAB Skuba, Lithuania

Konecranes KBK Workstation Cranes support daily operations at UAB Skuba

UAB Skuba is one of the largest and most modern truck and trailer workshop networks in Lithuania. Across its operations, engines, gearboxes and other heavy vehicle components are handled every day, making safe and reliable material handling essential for efficient workshop operations.

When planning its workshops in Panevėžys and Kaunas, UAB Skuba identified workstation lifting as a key requirement. Without suitable lifting equipment, moving heavy components would require greater effort and could slow down maintenance and servicing activities. The company therefore sought a partner with experience in workstation lifting solutions and a practical understanding of automotive workshop environments.

Lifting in daily workshop operations

The workshop environment at UAB Skuba is built around the frequent movement of heavy automotive components between workstations. Engines and gearboxes must be positioned accurately to support maintenance, assembly and servicing activities.

According to Vidmantas Palietis, Technical Manager at UAB Skuba, cranes were part of the workshop concept from the beginning. “We built our workshops with cranes from the start. Without them, the work would simply be inefficient,” Palietis explains.

UAB Skuba required lifting solutions that could be integrated into the workshop layout and support the safe and efficient handling of heavy components as part of daily operations.

Defining the right workstation solution

Konecranes worked closely with UAB Skuba to understand how loads move through the workshops, how frequently lifting is required and the typical weights involved. Based on this assessment, a workstation lifting solution was selected to support daily operations and fit the workshop layout.

“The starting point was understanding how the customer works and what kind of lifting support is needed in daily operations. That allowed us to propose a solution that fits the workshop environment and the way components are handled,” says Deivydas Kirdeika, Service Manager, Konecranes Lithuania.

UAB Skuba selected Konecranes KBK Workstation Crane Systems combined with Konecranes electric chain hoists. The systems feature manual trolley travel and electric lifting, with lifting capacities ranging from 250 to 500 kg.

Today, the system plays an important role in daily workshop operations, allowing engines, gearboxes and other heavy vehicle components to be moved efficiently between workstations. This supports a consistent workflow while helping reduce manual handling.

Supporting workflow and safety

Vidmantas Palietis, Technical Manager at UAB Skuba, summarizes the company’s experience:”The cranes make our workflow more efficient and improve safety when handling heavy parts. The support we have received from Konecranes has also added value, and if we build a new workshop, we would consider using their products again.”
