Protect areas for optimal crane movement
In industrial facilities, there may be areas where a crane should never travel. The Konecranes Protected Areas Smart Feature lets you define specific zones the crane cannot enter, keeping production machinery, storage systems and other valuable assets safely out of reach. Once a protected zone is set, the crane automatically slows and stops before crossing its boundary, removing the risk of costly collisions without requiring constant operator vigilance. This is especially valuable in facilities with tightly packed layouts, sensitive equipment or areas where a single impact could mean expensive downtime and repairs.
Protected Areas in action
Up to 16 protected areas can be created and the crane operator is unable to override or adjust them with the operator interface. The operator can operate the crane normally, focusing on the movements of the crane and the load, and the protected areas are avoided automatically. Protected areas are based on the position of the hook, not the dimensions of the load, so operators should always keep visual contact with both the crane and the load.
