Slack Rope Prevention

Keep lifting devices stable to prevent product damage

Just as loads need to be lifted slowly to avoid shocking the crane, they also need to be set down carefully, especially when rigging devices such as lifting beams are used. In typical operation, it can be challenging to slow the crane down enough during lowering to provide a gentle landing for the rigging gear. If the load is lowered too quickly, the hoist ropes can slacken, slip out of the hook block and the lifting device can tip over, possibly damaging the product and slowing production.

The Konecranes Slack Rope Prevention Smart Feature automatically detects when the load has reached its final position and stops the lowering motion before the ropes become slack. This feature helps keep lifting devices like  lifting beams and coil tongs stable and reduces the risk of the device tilting or falling over.

Slack Rope Prevention in action

Once the Slack Rope Prevention feature is set up, it is always active. As needed, the crane operator can bypass the feature with a button on the operator interface. The hoist drive monitors the load and compares a preset load value to the lifted load to detect when the load has reached its final position and stop the lowering movement. With this automated feature, the operator can focus on controlling the load, monitoring the environment and making sure the load remains secure.

Add Smart Features to your crane

You can buy Smart Features already installed on your new Konecranes equipment, or have them added to your existing cranes with a modernization. Choose the ones you want, or ask us to recommend a features package that fits your specific lifting needs.
