Working Limits

Temporary virtual walls limit crane movement around obstacles

In busy industrial facilities, crane operators may often have to maneuver the crane around obstacles such as vehicles entering a plant for unloading or loading, temporary maintenance or construction areas, or with changing operational needs. These situations require time, focus and energy to account for—and are subject to human error. The Konecranes Working Limits Smart Feature creates temporary virtual walls that limit where the crane can move. The settings can easily be changed making it a flexible safety tool for different tasks and shielding areas where people or equipment are located.

Working Limits in action

To use the Working Limits feature, the crane operator defines the limit by driving the crane to the desired borderline, turning the dial on the Working Limits switch to the set position and indicating which direction(s) the limit should point. If the crane is moved towards a working limit, a symbol will appear on the controller that the hoist is approaching the limit, and the crane will stop motion. Operators can bypass and remove the working limits with the same switch, if needed. The working limits are based on the position of the hook, not the dimensions of the load, so operators should always keep visual contact with both the crane and the load.
